Institutions have taken another step forward—not a PowerPoint presentation, but the real thing going live.
Standard Chartered has announced that it has now launched custody on the XRP Ledger $RLUSD for eligible institutional clients through its Dubai DIFC branch, regulated by the DFSA. The key words are “now live,” not “we plan to support it.”
The next layer is more interesting: Standard Chartered is still advancing collateral mirroring with Ripple and LMAX Group—assets held in custody $RLUSD may eventually be used directly as trading collateral, without first moving them to a trading venue. But this isn’t live yet; documentation, testing, and compliance are all still in the way, so don’t assume it’s available today.
Three things to note:
1. Bank-grade custody now supports stablecoins, filling a key infrastructure gap for institutional adoption
2. “Custody live ≠ collateral live”—don’t conflate the two
3. In the stablecoin narrative, products that can be used in custody and collateral workflows are more likely to be doing real work
This is not investment advice.
