A story about how I forgot to change one extra zero, which turned out not to be extra after all))
I had 1000$ and a habit of trading BTC with x10 leverage. Entry, stop, exit—usually up or down a couple of percent.
That evening, I was opening a regular long position and rushing: I wanted to get in before the news came out, so I entered the amount, set a stop, hit confirm, and went to make some tea.
I came back, looked at the position, and freaked out. The screen showed x100 instead of x10. Apparently, before that I’d usually been trading with money from airdrops, around 10 dollars at a time. So the position was 100 000$ instead of $10,000.
The stop was set at -5% from the entry price. With x100 leverage, that didn’t mean much—the liquidation price was just 1% away, and my thousand was hanging by a thread. I tried to change the leverage, but you can’t do that on an open position without adding margin, and I had nothing to add. All I could do was close at a loss or wait.
I was afraid to close it.
I knew any 1% move down would wipe everything out, but I decided to take the risk anyway. Forty minutes later, BTC was up by a bit over 5%.
I got out with a profit of +$5,400, and a 571% return on my deposit))
It was unreal. It felt like my soul had left my body. Of course, I immediately changed the leverage back to 10 afterward, since I don’t have the skills to trade at x100. Wishing everyone profits like that))
