Veria says its AI agent discovered a critical vulnerability in the $XRP Ledger that could have allowed an attacker to create 18 trillion $XRP in a single transaction 184 times the network’s original 100 billion token supply. The flaw reportedly went undetected for nearly a decade, potentially putting billions of dollars at risk.

The team reported the vulnerability on September 22. XRPL confirmed it the same day, merged a fix on September 23, and released the patch on September 25. RippleX said it found no evidence the bug had been exploited. Veria says it received the maximum $250,000 bug bounty, which it describes as the largest payout for a vulnerability discovered entirely by an AI agent.

The discovery highlights how AI is changing blockchain security: it can uncover old vulnerabilities and connect smaller bugs into critical exploits, but attackers can use similar tools too. Even heavily audited networks can have hidden weaknesses making fast disclosure and patching essential
