Sui Foundation announced on October 12 that it had made a strategic investment of $30 million in DATA Network, an AI training data protocol, becoming the network’s largest institutional holder, tied with existing holders PIP Labs and DATA Foundation. DATA Network (formerly Story) will upgrade to a protocol running natively on $SUI , and its independent blockchain will be retired. $DATA tokens will migrate to Sui at a 1:1 ratio, with vesting and release schedules unchanged. On-chain data storage platform Walrus will become the default storage layer for DATA Foundation applications.

Since launching in June 2026, DATA’s provenance registration protocol, Trace, has registered more than 250 million contributions and processes over 3 million receipts per day on average. The project said the migration timeline will be announced separately ahead of the upgrade, and the current network will continue operating until the upgrade is complete. SY Lee, chairman of the board at Poseidon and CEO of PIP Labs, will serve as a strategic advisor to Sui Foundation.
