Someone asked: When the long/short ratio is relatively high, does that mean the market is bullish?
My answer: The overall account long/short ratio is the number of accounts with net long positions divided by the number of accounts with net short positions. Each account counts as just one, regardless of how large its position is. The account long/short ratio reflects the number of traders on each side, so it’s more like a gauge of the majority’s sentiment; the large traders’ position long/short ratio reflects position sizes and shows which side big money is betting on.
