Microsoft is reshaping the management of its Azure cloud business and consolidating internal teams around artificial intelligence. According to Sina Finance, Azure cloud chief Scott Guthrie told employees on Monday that Arun Ulag, who previously led Azure database products, will also take over the Azure core business and the Azure engineering leadership team.

Azure core business provides computing resources for customers including OpenAI. Guthrie said the executives under his oversight include Girish Bablani, Billy Anders, Douglas Phillips, and Mark Russinovich. People familiar with the matter said Charlie Bell, who stepped down earlier this year as Microsoft’s security chief and moved into an advisory role, now also reports to Ulag.

The personnel changes follow a series of executive departures at Microsoft this year, including Azure AI chief Eric Boyd, who left Microsoft in the spring to become head of infrastructure at Anthropic. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is also bringing in a new generation of leaders across the company and giving them greater oversight of the business. According to an independent report by The Information on Monday, Nadella had already invited Ulag to board meetings earlier this year, and he is seen internally as one of Nadella’s key potential successors.
