📚【Investing 101】How do you read the Fear & Greed Index?

$BTC is fluctuating around $82,000, while the Fear & Greed Index has fallen from 82 in August to 56. Today, let’s explain this market sentiment thermometer in 2 minutes 👇

🔢 What is the index?
It’s measured on a scale of 0–100: the lower the score, the more fearful the market; the higher the score, the greedier it is. 0–25 means extreme fear, 25–45 fear, 45–55 neutral, 55–75 greed, and 75–100 extreme greed. The index combines factors such as volatility, trading volume, social media buzz, and market share.

📖 How to use it without falling into a trap
Remember the old saying: “Be greedy when others are fearful, and fearful when others are greedy.” A drop below 25 often signals an oversold opportunity to get in early; a rise above 75 suggests sentiment may be overheated, so be cautious about chasing prices. But the index is only a gauge of sentiment, not a buy or sell signal. Making decisions based on it alone can get you burned.

🔍 How it compares with the current market
The index has fallen to 56, signaling a cooldown rather than fear: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw nearly $500 million in net outflows in a single day on October 7–8—the biggest since June—and the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield is nearing 5.3%, adding macroeconomic pressure. $ETH is also correcting in tandem near $2,400. But Bitcoin has held the lower boundary of its $80,000 range, so the market structure remains intact.

📅 This is a macro-heavy week: U.S. CPI on Wednesday, PPI and initial jobless claims on Thursday, and a speech by the Fed Chair on Friday. Volatility is likely to pick up.

💡 Tip: Checking the index once a day is enough. Set 25 and 75 as your own “action alert levels,” and leave the rest of the time to managing your position size.
