Layer 2 networks explained in three sentences:
A Layer 2 network is a scaling network built on top of the Ethereum mainnet. It executes transactions off-chain, then writes the data back to the mainnet.
Layer 2 security relies heavily on the Ethereum mainnet: transaction data and results are written to the mainnet. This is one important difference between Layer 2 networks and sidechains.
When transferring funds, check which network you’re using: assets at the same address on different networks are not interoperable.
