Hock Tan, the CEO of Broadcom Inc, said on Monday that the artificial intelligence boom has attracted investors who approach the sector with a gambler’s mentality, often lacking a real understanding of their investments.
Speaking at an event in Singapore, Tan explained that many investors have inflated expectations without grasping the nature of what they are funding, especially when it comes to large language models. He compared the situation to sitting in a casino.
The chip industry executive also addressed concerns about companies spending on AI without achieving clear returns, using an analogy of children wasting their tokens in video games to describe how organizations are currently handling AI technologies.
Tan said: "Your parents give you $10.00 worth of tokens, and you burn through them in 10 minutes without learning anything. That is exactly what is happening in enterprises today."
