A lot of people who are new to trading ask me: Does 10x leverage mean you make 10 times as much? Today, I’ll explain it in plain English.

【The basics】Leverage means the exchange lends you money to open a position. If you have 100 U in principal and use 10x leverage, you actually control a

1,000 U position. If the coin price rises 1%, you make 10% on your principal; conversely,

A 1% drop means a 10% loss on your principal—note that the loss is calculated based on the total position you borrowed to open.

【The cost】With 10x leverage, if the coin price moves against you by about 10%, your principal is wiped out. This is called liquidation. It’s not

that you only lose it all after a 10% drop; you lose it all at around 10% (the exact price level also depends on the margin ratio).

Leverage doesn’t boost your win rate—it amplifies volatility. Get the direction right, and it helps you make money faster; get it wrong, and it gets you wiped out faster.

There’s nothing inherently good or bad about the tool. It depends on whether you use it as a tool or treat it like a way to gamble.

【Advice for beginners】Start with 2–3x leverage to get a feel for the volatility. Make stop-losses second nature before thinking about increasing your leverage.
