What exactly is a hash, and why does blockchain rely on it?
A secure hash function makes it difficult to recover the original input from its hash value, and it is nearly impossible to find two different inputs that produce the same hash value.
Common Bitcoin P2PKH and P2WPKH addresses are generated by applying SHA-256 to a public key, followed by RIPEMD-160, resulting in a 160-bit public key hash.
One important thing to keep in mind when managing your positions: after downloading wallet software, compare its SHA-256 checksum with the one published by the official source to make sure the installer hasn’t been tampered with.
