Why does a candlestick sometimes have very long wicks?
This is how I understand it: A long upper wick is often interpreted as selling pressure after the price rises sharply, while a long lower wick often suggests buying support at a low. But a single candlestick can't tell you what will happen next.
The thick part of a candlestick is the body, and the thin lines extending from either end are called wicks. The tip of the upper wick marks the highest price during that period.
My habit now: When comparing candlesticks, make sure to check the time period and color settings first, so you don't mistake a decline for a rise.
