ETH pulls back after a volume-backed push higher; 4-hour breakout still needs closing confirmation
$ETH This latest push higher was accompanied by volume, but the breakout has yet to hold. Binance ETH/USDT spot is currently quoted at 2559.49 USDT, back below the previous 4-hour candle’s high.
From 12:00 to 16:00 Beijing time on October 12, ETH rose from 2546.72 to 2564.19 USDT, a gain of about 0.69%. Trading volume was about 60,200 ETH, 2.55 times that of the previous candle. However, ETH failed to hold after touching 2579.88 intraperiod, and the current, still-open candle has since pulled back.
This evidence points to active short-term buying, but it is not enough to confirm a breakout, let alone conclude that the long-term trend has reversed. Higher volume means more trading activity; it does not mean fresh buying will continue to follow through.
I’m watching the next 4-hour close more closely: can ETH close above 2579.88 and hold that level on a subsequent retest? If it only moves above that level intraperiod but closes back below it, the breakout remains unconfirmed. The previous 4-hour candle’s low at 2542.50 is the first level to watch below. If a 4-hour candle closes below it, the current bullish breakout attempt thesis is invalidated, and the strength of the pullback will need to be reassessed.
