Wormhole ($W ) gained +74% in 24h on Binance (0.01737 → $0.0303 on 12/10 around 09:00 UTC), with no new official announcement. The “news + spot buying” explanation doesn’t hold up against the numbers.

The myth: a fresh catalyst. But the latest post from the official Wormhole account on X dates back to 7/10, and the narratives cited (HYPE via Wormhole NTT, tokenization) predate the move.

Binance data (public API, 12/10 ~09:00 UTC):
- 24h volume for WUSDT perp: ~$467M, versus ~$51M for W/USDT spot, or about 9x
- open interest: 511M W (~$9.0M) on 11/10 at 06:00 UTC, 999M W (~$30.0M) this morning: almost 2x in contracts, so new positions
- funding at -0.0115% at the 08:00 UTC settlement, account long/short ratio fell from 1.80 to 0.66: most accounts are shorting the rally
- according to Lookonchain, a wallet (0x2f59) that made over $1M on $STRK opened a 5x long on 28.88M W (~$643K)

What still matters: according to Tokenomist, the next unlock is on 16/10 (~51.8M W, about 0.5% of the supply, ~$1.5M at the current price). Small, but in a market dominated by leverage. And W is still down 98% from its $1.66 ATH (April 2024).

My take: this is a positioning rally, not a fundamentals-driven one. Shorts paying to stay in while OI swells is fuel for a squeeze as long as the price holds.

Two paths:
1) price holds around $0.028 (this morning’s hourly closes) with stable OI: shorts have to cover, volatility stays high
2) OI suddenly unwinds without spot buying to support it: a logical return to $0.021–$0.022, the zone from the evening of 11/10

A rally with 9x more perp volume than spot—do you read it as the start of a trend or as a trap for those arriving now?
