Stablecoins are already circulating globally, but has regulation failed to keep up? The FSB has highlighted a key issue.
On October 12, the Financial Stability Board (FSB) published a report on the cross-border risks of global stablecoins and monitoring their impact on financial stability. It pointed out that global stablecoin operations may span multiple countries, institutions, and regulatory systems, making it difficult for any one country to fully understand all the risks on its own. The report also addresses regulatory cooperation, data gaps, and how to monitor cross-border stablecoin activity more effectively.
The underlying tension is clear: stablecoins such as USDT and USDC make it easier to move funds across borders, but if large-scale redemptions, reserve asset issues, or regulatory conflicts arise, risks could spread across markets.
Do you think stablecoins should be allowed to continue developing freely, or is a more unified set of global regulatory rules essential?
