Today, Aptos officially “graduated”: its four-year vesting period has ended, and monthly sell pressure has been cut by 60%

1. First, what happened?
On October 12, the four-year vesting period for Aptos’s early investors and core contributors came to an end. Monthly unlocks have dropped from 11.31 million tokens to 4.54 million $APT , meaning roughly 81 million fewer tokens will be released over the course of a year.

2. What the data tells us
- The foundation has permanently locked and staked 210M APT (about $168M), pledging never to sell the principal and to live off the 2.6% annual yield
- A hard cap of 2.1 billion tokens has been set for the entire network. The remaining tokens will be released only from the community and foundation pools, continuing through 2032
- But don’t celebrate just yet: official data shows net issuance is still around 1.4 million tokens per month. The goal of “deflation” hasn’t been achieved yet

3. What to watch next
On the day the news broke, APT rebounded by more than 11%, suggesting the market is trading “the bad news is out” as good news. The real test lies ahead: can the reduced token releases bring sustained buying? If the price can’t hold above $0.80, even the best token-lockup story won’t help.

In my view, this is a watershed moment in APT’s shift from a “VC coin” to a “community coin.” The biggest supply-side risk has been removed; now it’s all about whether demand can deliver.
