Monday lunchtime, and the energy market drama just keeps coming.

A third oil tanker in 24 hours struck a mine in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran said it plans to manage the strait as a long-term strategic asset. Oil prices are surging, $BTC is benefiting, and the inflation-hedge narrative is back.

Trump’s “Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire” is even more of a joke. Just hours after it was announced, Russian forces bombed a power plant in Kharkiv. He was also mulling diesel imports from Russia, only to be slammed by senators from both parties for violating the law. The word “ceasefire” sounds like a punchline now.

The impact on crypto boils down to one thing: if oil prices don’t come down, inflation expectations won’t ease. Treasury yields have already hit a 24-year high, while stocks are somehow still making new highs. This divergence can’t last much longer. Wednesday’s CPI report is the key battleground for bulls and bears, so keep an eye on the timing if you’re trading the Asian session.

Macro markets are at the mercy of the weather, but RWA is quietly getting things done. $ONDO was highlighted in an IMF report this week, Franklin Templeton and Animoca have teamed up, and Luxembourg is planning to issue €1 billion in tokenized government bonds. Institutional investors putting real money on the line is much more convincing than hype.

My take: Keep an eye on oil and CPI in the short term; don’t chase rallies. For the long term, I’m still bullish on the expansion of on-chain assets.
