At last, I got to touch the bronze sheep at Qingyang Palace again. When I was a child, I came to Chengdu with my mother, and it left the deepest impression on me. My stomach hurt a little then, and my mother said, “Wherever you hurt, touch the corresponding spot on the sheep and it’ll stop hurting.” I rubbed the sheep’s belly, and sure enough, my stomach stopped hurting. That’s why I remember it so well.
The two bronze sheep, one male and one female, are still standing at the entrance to the main hall, surrounded by people reaching out to touch them. Nothing has changed—except that I don’t know where my mother has gone. I wish time were just an illusion, and that yesterday could come around again.
