According to CNBC, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said artificial intelligence could drive major scientific breakthroughs in physics, biotech, chemistry and materials science within the next two to three years. He made the remarks at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore on Monday and said the technology’s short-term impact may be overstated even as its longer-term potential is underestimated.

Chew said ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, is expanding AI research beyond consumer uses and noted that its Seed research team unveiled Protenix-v2 in April, an AI model focused on biomolecular structure prediction and design with potential drug-discovery applications. He also said the company is looking to collaborate with scientists on research and warned that AI agents and other autonomous systems could create significant cybersecurity risks, including unintended purchases and cheaper fraud for malicious actors.
