What does TVL actually tell us?
Different data platforms use different methodologies: whether to include staked assets, borrowed assets, and a protocol’s own tokens can make a big difference to the figures. TVL (total value locked) is the total dollar value of assets held in the smart contracts of a protocol or blockchain.
When comparing projects, TVL can be considered alongside metrics such as fees, revenue, and active users. Looking at TVL alone can be misleading.
