South Korea has widened the door for token securities
The Financial Services Commission’s proposed amendments to the subordinate regulations of the Electronic Securities Act were published for legislative notice on the 2nd of this month. The notice period runs through November 11, and the amendments will take effect on February 4 next year. Initially, only institutions will be allowed in, and eligible assets include tokenized private money market funds, private bonds, and unlisted shares held in trust. For ordinary investors, each over-the-counter platform will cap annual net purchases at 100 million won, or about $72,000.
Institutions get first dibs, then retail investors—that’s South Korea’s usual playbook. Putting bonds and funds on-chain means real-world assets are starting to seek on-chain channels, giving won-denominated capital a compliant entry point. Incremental demand for tokenization is shifting from concept to actual orders.
