RVNUSDT perpetual falls nearly 10% in 24 hours: OI continues to rise, 0.00179 support yet to be confirmed
Bottom line: RVNUSDT spot and perpetual prices both fell about 10% over 24 hours, while the most recently closed daily candle saw a clear increase in trading volume. More concerning, the number of open perpetual positions rose by about 10.7% during the decline, and nominal OI increased by about 5.4%. This indicates that leveraged positions have not eased in tandem with the drop, and negative funding rates do not signal that prices have bottomed. The 0.001790 level is only an intraday low; it cannot yet be described as confirmed support.
As of 09:49 Beijing time on October 12, Binance USDⓈ-M RVNUSDT perpetual was around 0.001831 USDT, with a 24-hour open of 0.002032, high of 0.002065, low of 0.001790, and a decline of 9.892%. Contract trading volume was approximately 23.5436 million USDT. Binance spot RVNUSDT was around 0.001837, down 9.995% over 24 hours, with trading volume of approximately 4.9915 million USDT. Spot and perpetual prices moved in a similar direction, but their trading volume figures are measured differently and should not be added together as a single net capital inflow.
Looking at the already-closed 4-hour candlesticks, the October 11 08:00–12:00 UTC candle closed at 0.002008, followed by the 12:00–16:00 candle closing at 0.001939, with trading volume of approximately 6.4556 million USDT; the 16:00–20:00 candle closed at 0.001953, with volume of approximately 3.4064 million; and the 20:00–24:00 candle closed at 0.001905, with volume of approximately 1.8487 million. The previous high of 0.002065 occurred within an earlier, already-closed 4-hour candle. After peaking, the price closed lower in consecutive candles, while volume declined, pointing to a weak short-term structure.
The decline is more pronounced on the hourly timeframe. The most recent closed 00:00–01:00 UTC candle opened at 0.001904, touched a low of 0.001805, and closed at 0.001821, with trading volume of approximately 3.4619 million USDT—clearly higher than that of the preceding hourly candles. In other words, the current price decline is accompanied by a short-term increase in trading volume, but the low of this candle is still an intraperiod level and cannot be treated as established support.
The daily chart also signals increased volatility: the October 11 daily candle closed at 0.001905, with trading volume of approximately 21.1291 million USDT; the previous day’s volume was approximately 3.7757 million, about 5.6 times lower. A high-volume decline indicates a significant increase in market participation, but does not by itself prove that the sellers’ trend has run its course, nor does it allow a reversal to be predicted.
Leverage data has not shown signs of cooling. Binance’s approximately 8-hour history of 1-hour OI shows perpetual open interest rising from about 2.1736 billion contracts to about 2.4056 billion, an increase of approximately 10.7%. Based on the nominal value reported by the API, it rose from about 4.1581 million USDT to about 4.3841 million USDT, an increase of approximately 5.4%. A falling price alongside rising OI indicates that new contract positions are still being opened or that the structure of existing positions is changing, but OI alone cannot tell whether the new positions are long or short.
The current funding rate is approximately -0.045079% per settlement period. The last three settled rates were approximately -0.061347%, -0.058428%, and -0.056367%. A negative rate means shorts pay longs, but during a period when price, OI, and trading volume are all increasing, a negative funding rate should not be treated as proof that the decline has stopped or that a reversal is underway. The risks of heightened volatility, slippage, and liquidation should also be considered.
Focus next on three sets of conditions. First, 0.001790 is the intraday low over the past 24 hours. It would offer preliminary support only if subsequent 1-hour or 4-hour candles close above it and the price stabilizes on declining volume; a high-volume close below it could mean the weakness continues. Second, watch the most recent closed 4-hour closing level of 0.001905, followed by 0.001953. A move back above 0.001953 would mean the current assessment of “a decline accompanied by rising leverage” needs to be toned down. Third, if volume contracts rapidly during a rebound while OI continues to rise, remain alert to resistance weighing on the rebound rather than treating a price recovery as a confirmed trend reversal.
Therefore, the more accurate description of RVNUSDT at present is “spot and perpetual markets declining in tandem, daily volume elevated, OI still rising, and negative funding without confirmation that the decline has stopped”—not a low-risk dip-buying signal.
