Contrarian take: We’ll see an altcoin season over the next two months around the midterm elections. My views aren’t swayed by what other people think!
1. What are the underlying logic and fundamentals of altcoins right now?
A large number of altcoins are consolidating near their all-time lows. Some small-cap altcoins can surge as soon as the wind starts blowing in their favor. The main factors driving their gains are more about these conditions—not that Bitcoin and Ethereum have to surge for them to take off! That’s not the case!
BTC and ETH can rise slightly or even trade sideways, as long as there’s no major negative news!
Take APT, for example: on the 8th, negative market news sent it tumbling to 0.69. But as soon as the broader market bounced a little, APT rebounded sharply to 0.96 within a day or two.
There are plenty of coins like this. I’m sure you’ve seen lots of altcoins bounce 20%–40% over the past couple of days.
2. Which altcoins are genuine opportunities right now?
Screen them by price and market cap: look for projects that are still operating normally and could benefit from the growth of the blockchain industry in the US, or those that have made the most of buyback-and-burn mechanisms this year.
Projects with buyback-and-burn mechanisms include:
UNI, HYPE, LIT, PUMP, JTO, ASTER, SKY, NEAR, PONS.
Some of these coins have issues—for example, HYPE, which changed its tokenomics and is near its all-time high; or ASTER, a supposedly decentralized exchange with a large number of holders underwater at higher price levels, among other concerns.
There are lots of altcoins out there. You may not really believe in the ones others recommend, or may not be able to hold them. Pick one you understand, like, and can hold, then wait for good things to happen 🫡
