History doesn’t repeat itself, but human nature plays the same tune every time.

The bear markets of 2018 and 2022 had different lows, but the panic everywhere and the wave of people selling at the bottom felt exactly the same. The bull markets of 2017 and 2021 also peaked at different levels, yet the frenzy of buying at the top was no different.

So don’t use past price levels to call tops and bottoms. That’s the trap of overrelying on experience. What you can learn from is the cycle of market sentiment—not an exact replay of past price action.

As for me: I was still making steady profits a few months ago, but this month I’ve started taking consecutive losses. Thinking it through, blaming the market makes no sense. The real reason is greed: I increased my position beyond what I could handle.

The most expensive lesson in this market has never been about technical indicators. It’s about knowing yourself.
