Bitcoin fell to $80,400, FinCEN is scrapping rules for non-custodial wallets, and the CFTC is drawing a line between prediction markets and gambling—it’s as if two different regulators stirred things up in a single session.
Things look like a tiny bit of chaos right now: regulations are changing as fast as prices, and traders are constantly having to adjust their strategies. If the withdrawn rules open up new opportunities for non-custodial services, that could accelerate DeFi’s growth, but it could also increase the risk of AML evasion. Separating prediction markets from gambling seems to simply formalize existing demand—it may promote greater transparency, but it won’t solve money-laundering problems. All in all, regulators keep tinkering, and all we can do is stay on top of things.
