Lesson 11: What Are Pakistan’s New Crypto Laws?
A formal legal and regulatory framework has been introduced for cryptocurrency and digital assets in Pakistan.
PVARA, or the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, is the body that oversees businesses dealing in virtual assets in Pakistan and licenses companies that provide related services.
According to official information, Pakistan’s Virtual Assets Act, 2026, and the regulations that came into force under it on August 21, 2026, set out requirements for licensing, consumer protection, cybersecurity, and the prevention of financial crime for relevant businesses.
What does this mean for ordinary users?
1. Regulation: Companies providing crypto services must meet the relevant legal requirements.
2. Security: Users should also take steps to protect their accounts, passwords, and assets.
3. Verification: Check claims about a platform’s legal license or approval through official sources.
4. Risk Awareness: Legal regulation does not mean the risk of losing money in crypto has disappeared.
