According to Glassnode data, approximately 6.2 million of #Bitcoin , or 31.2% of the total supply, are held in addresses with publicly exposed public keys, a considerable increase from the 24.8% recorded in early 2021. Much of this figure is due to address reuse, as well as certain types of scripts and transaction structures in which the public key is revealed once the funds are spent for the first time.
Some of this volume belongs to centralized exchanges and custodial services, where operational practices and address consolidation often involve frequently recycling inputs. The main concern is forward-looking and relates to long-term advances in quantum computing, which could theoretically compromise elliptic-curve cryptography algorithms if an address has already revealed its public key.
