$BTC suddenly surged to 84,000: Is momentum back, or is this a bull trap?

$BTC
It just shot straight up from around 83,000 to 84,000, hitting a high of 84,040. There’s no clear single news catalyst on the charts; it looks more like a technical push higher in the low-volume weekend market, with a sweep of short stop-losses along the way.

The levels matter here: around 84,000 is a cluster of sell orders on the order book, and 85,000 above that is a strong resistance level that price failed to break several times in early October. It only counts as a real breakout if price can take out both levels in one go. If it just tags them and pulls back, that’s a textbook fakeout.

I’m leaning cautious: short-term momentum has definitely picked up, but don’t forget that Wednesday at 20:30, CPI is the real test this week. There have been plenty of historical cases where a rally ahead of CPI turned into a “pump and dump.” A weekly close above 82,700 would mean buyers are in control; until then, treat this as a rebound and don’t chase the highs.

Plan: If price holds firmly above 84,000 (with a 4-hour candle closing above it), then watch 85,000. If it falls back below 82,500, treat this rally as if it never happened—and honor your stop-loss.
