Technical principles | What is sharding, and how can it improve a public blockchain’s performance?
Sharding originated in database technology. It means dividing data and computational tasks into multiple parts, with each shard processing them in parallel.
The challenge with sharding is security: each shard is managed by only a subset of validators, so an attacker can more easily focus their efforts on a single shard than attack the entire chain.
$NEAR is NEAR’s native coin. This public blockchain uses the Nightshade sharding design.
Understand the principles before getting started, and don’t make decisions based on gut feeling.
