Just saw: $MINA has a current funding rate of -0.161% (settled every 8 hours). Shorts pay, which works out to an approximate annualized rate of 175.9% based on this period.
People often ask how to interpret funding rates, so here’s my take.
Funding is calculated as the position’s notional value × the funding rate: for a position with a notional value of 10,000 U, a funding rate of 0.01% means 1 U for that period.
The funding rate only indicates an imbalance between longs and shorts in the contract market; it doesn’t tell you anything about spot demand.
Any indicator summarizes price action that has already happened, and the market can move in the opposite direction at any time.
