Ledger confirms presence of unauthorized hardware device in supply chain theft investigation

Ledger has confirmed the discovery of an unauthorized hardware device installed inside a cryptocurrency wallet linked to an ongoing theft investigation, pointing to a sophisticated supply chain attack.

The company said the compromised device was traced to a single reseller operating in Southeast Asia, and that the incident appears to be isolated to that market. Losses related to the case are estimated to exceed $86 million.

Ledger has not publicly detailed the technical mechanism of the installed device, but the discovery underscores existing security concerns surrounding third-party hardware wallet resellers. Users are consistently advised to purchase devices directly from manufacturers to reduce their exposure to tampered hardware.
