【The Ledger Implant Scandal】
A cold wallet isn’t always cold. Devices sold by a Ledger-authorized reseller in Southeast Asia were found to contain unauthorized hardware implants. The attackers have already transferred about 2,990 coins—worth $ETH —to Tornado Cash.

There are just 3 things you need to know:

1️⃣ Scale of losses: On-chain investigator Specter estimates losses of more than $86 million, involving hundreds of wallets. Ledger has not confirmed the amount.

2️⃣ Scope: Ledger says the issue currently appears to be limited to CryptoBilis, a single reseller. Its own systems were not breached, and there is no sign so far that devices purchased through official channels were affected.

3️⃣ What to do: If you bought a device from this reseller in the past 90 days and haven’t initialized it, don’t use it yet. If you’re already using one, follow the official advice: switch to a new device and transfer your assets using a new seed phrase.

My take: The direct impact on crypto prices is limited. ETH was at $2,501 on Binance at 18:59, essentially flat over 24 hours. The key thing to watch is where the stolen funds go. If a large amount of ETH is laundered and then sent to exchanges, that could add another layer of short-term selling pressure.

If Ledger confirms that other resellers were also affected, this assessment will need to change.

Did you buy your hardware wallet through an official channel?
