Lesson 51 of 100 — From my experience in the market
The order book — how to read supply and demand before you hit buy?
Behind every price you see on the platform is a table called the order book — the clearest picture of the market at that moment.
The table has two sides:
· The buy side in green: people who want to buy, each listing a price and quantity
· The sell side in red: people who want to sell, in the same way
The price at the top is the last trade executed between the two sides.
What to look out for:
1️⃣ The gap between the highest buy and the lowest sell — the smaller it is, the healthier the market
2️⃣ Large quantities at a certain price create a temporary wall — but it can disappear in a second, so don’t base your decision on it alone
3️⃣ If the order book is thin, any large market order will move the price against you
Before placing any large order, check the order book first: it’ll tell you whether you’ll buy at the price you see or at a higher one.
Bottom line: The order book shows you who’s waiting to buy and who’s waiting to sell, and at what price — check it before placing large orders so you know the price your order will actually execute at.
