$BTC is hovering around 83K. My current instinct is that volume is drying up as the market waits, and no direction has been chosen yet. Two sets of data are needed to validate this instinct: will volume recover to above 30B, or stay near the low-volume level of around 14B; and when the price retests 82K, will buyers step in with a quick rebound like the one in mid-September?

The current 24-hour volume is only 13.96B, a clear drop from the 61B recorded when the price surged to 86.6K on September 22. The price is down 2.26% over seven days, but still up 7.55% over 30 days, which suggests this pullback after the rally has not yet damaged the medium-term structure. What matters more to me is that the retest has not broken below the September 19 breakout point of 80.8K, so the bulls still have some control over the market’s pace. But the year-to-date decline of 25.93% and the 34% gap from the ATH are reminders that this is just one phase of a recovery cycle, not the start of a one-way rally.

Shrinking volume cuts both ways: less selling pressure does not mean strong buying, and when liquidity is thin, a single external headline can quickly shift the price to a new level. If the price later breaks below 82K on rising volume, my view will be invalidated—that would not be a sign of stabilization, but a continuation of the decline. Conversely, a breakout above 86.6K on rising volume would signal that the trend is regaining momentum. Rather than taking sides now, it’s better to watch these two boundaries.
