The White House recently announced scientific initiatives totaling more than $6 billion, with a focus on quantum computing and artificial intelligence. One initiative, the “Quantum Genesis” competition, will provide $215 million in awards to companies developing fault-tolerant quantum computers, covering eight research areas, including chemistry and materials science. In addition, 11 tech companies have pledged $2.4 billion worth of AI tools and computing power to support research at 15 federal agencies. Nvidia is contributing $1 billion, and AMD $500 million. The initiatives come amid growing industry concerns that quantum computing could threaten cryptocurrency security: three EU financial regulators previously warned that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could derive private keys from exposed public keys and steal funds. However, no machine with this capability exists yet. (Source: Cointelegraph)
