On this night one year ago, many people saw their entire futures and lending accounts wiped out, as if they had never existed.
U.S. stocks have hit new highs all year and have been incredibly strong, but crypto has been extremely weak. A lot of people have asked me why, and my answer is always the same: this market is still paying off the debt from 10.11.
Without a doubt, 10.11 was the darkest day in all of crypto. Compared with its “predecessors”—9.4, 3.12, and 5.19—it had no specific policy headwinds, no impact from external markets, and no influence from the broader environment or financial backdrop. It was pure, unabashed, utterly shameless plundering.
It didn’t just drain liquidity from the industry and the market; it also crushed all the narratives and confidence. Or perhaps “plundering” isn’t quite accurate. A better way to put it would be: they cast the net.
But we have to keep looking ahead. No matter how dark it was, it’s been a year now. The whole industry and market—all of us—have been paying off the debt for a year. Surely it must be paid off by now.📈
