Bitcoin has recovered, so altcoins are bound to catch up? I’m not so optimistic.
In CoinDesk’s October 10 research, there were more buy and sell orders near BTC’s price than at the start of 2025. But for the altcoins covered in the study, there were about one-sixth fewer.
That’s a little awkward. Prices look cheaper, but there are fewer orders nearby from people willing to buy or sell. One large trade could push the price further away more easily.
Of course, these are historical samples, not a live view of today’s order book—and orders can be canceled at any time.
So I’m not ready to take the claim “Bitcoin has bounced back, so altcoins are next” at face value.
