Analysts found that four months ago, the investor bought 80 bitcoins for $5.2 million at an average price of about $65,000 per coin. By the time the funds went missing, the value of these assets had risen by about $1.38 million.

Lookonchain specialists found that on September 29, the investor transferred all the coins to a new address. Ten days later, on October 9, the bitcoins were withdrawn in a single transaction. Analysts did not reveal the identity of the wallet owner.

Lookonchain suggested that the hardware wallet purchased by the investor may have been compromised. Experts did not specify the reason for the missing bitcoins.

Earlier, hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger began investigating reports that customers of reseller CryptoBilis may have had $86 million worth of cryptocurrency stolen. The company did not confirm the amount of the loss and called for the temporary suspension of device sales, advising wallet owners to urgently transfer their bitcoins to new addresses and change their seed phrases.
