【The dumbest thought retail investors have: it’s fallen so much, it has to bounce】

Seeing SUI down nearly 80% from its highs, the first thought that pops into a lot of people’s heads is: “It’s due for a bounce, right?”

Sorry, the market doesn’t work that way.

You think a big drop is a buy signal? That’s the logic I fell for when I got burned in 2017. A big drop ≠ an imminent rise, and a low valuation ≠ an immediate rebound. Between the two lies a whole process of “consolidating and bottoming out” or “continuing to drift lower.” Undervaluation can last a long time—long enough to make you question your sanity.

Back to the charts. SUI is currently hovering between 1.06 and 1.16. It’s up nearly 3% over the past 24 hours, but still down more than 6% on the week. This is a textbook consolidation pattern—price pushes up, then slips back down. Bulls and bears are both holding back, and neither wants to make the first move. 1.06 is the bulls’ lifeline; a break below it would basically signal the end of this rebound. 1.16 is the bears’ fortress; a breakout above it would open up new possibilities.

As for Hashi, the new project that lets BTC holders borrow liquidity against their Bitcoin without moving it: honestly, it’s a good concept. There really is demand from institutions looking to use BTC as collateral. But do you know what lies between a “concept” and “widespread adoption”? Time. Trust. Liquidity depth. The news may be buzzing for a couple of days, but implementation is months—or even half a year—away. Don’t get carried away just because you hear bullish news.

Trading volume is the key indicator to watch right now. A breakout from a consolidation range without volume is all smoke and mirrors, and that’s the signal we’re still missing. The FNG index has fallen from a weekly average of 66 to 61, showing that market sentiment has become much more cautious. This is often when big money is quietly positioning itself—or pulling out.

As for direction, I’m personally leaning toward an initial move up. After being cooped up for so long, the bears deserve a rest too. But how high it can bounce depends on volume. Before the direction becomes clear, what’s your mindset right now? Getting itchy to trade?
