Private key responsibility: don’t entrust it to a screenshot.
CZ has released a streamlined guide to crypto asset custody, recommending that people choose a custody method based on the size of their holdings and their technical expertise. The key priorities are preventing theft and loss, and planning for inheritance in advance. Store private keys on offline devices, use hardware wallets, verify addresses, keep multiple backups in different locations, and don’t save keys in photos or screenshots.
For large holdings, self-custody means no one will reimburse you if you lose your private key. Keeping assets on a platform is more convenient, but you have to bear the platform’s trust and counterparty risks yourself. The guide can’t change short-term prices, but it may shift some holdings toward hardware wallets and independent addresses, potentially slowing the pace of inflows to exchanges.
Do you keep your large holdings on exchanges or in hardware wallets? Would you dare to withdraw more than half?
