A Coin’s Story (3): $BNB
In 2017, Binance was still very new.
Its founder, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), wanted to attract users, so he launched a platform token called BNB.
At first, BNB was a simple token that ran on the Ethereum network. Its first use was to offer a discount on trading fees.
Then the idea grew. In 2019, BNB got its own network, and later BNB Chain emerged, along with many apps, games, and projects.
There’s an important feature: Binance periodically burns some of its BNB tokens. That means those tokens are permanently removed, reducing the total supply.
And so BNB went from a “discount coupon” to one of the biggest cryptocurrencies in the world.
