🚨 Altcoin liquidity crisis! BTC has recovered, so why are other coins still bleeding?
📊 CoinDesk Research data for 10/10 shows: $BTC had about $11.7 million in 1% order book depth on 10/7, up 75% from the day of last year’s flash crash.
But the 5% order book dollar depth for the altcoins in the study sample has shrunk by about a third since early 2025!
🔍 My take:
I don’t think a BTC rally necessarily means a broad altcoin season is coming.
When buy-side depth is thin, even modest selling pressure can trigger sharp slippage. In the future, capital may concentrate in just a few projects with real demand and ample liquidity.
That said, if altcoin trading volume and order book depth recover together, I’ll need to revise this cautious view.
What’s really worth watching isn’t just the price, but how much capital the market is willing to absorb.
