Government moves $100M into an exchange, poised to dump—Saylor sets a buy date in response
The government moved $103 million worth of seized Bitcoin and BNB to Coinbase Prime, and while the market was still guessing when it might dump, Saylor announced that Strategy’s next BTC treasury update would be on October 29. One selling, one buying—the gap between them is just over two weeks.
The details of this $103 million on-chain transfer are worth a closer look: it consisted of both BTC and BNB, all sent to an institutional account at Coinbase Prime. When government-held coins enter an exchange’s hot wallet, it’s basically a signal that they’re “getting ready to cash out.” BNB’s price has been as still as a pool of water lately, but who can absorb a sudden potential wave of selling from the government?
XRP whales are doing the exact opposite. On-chain data shows XRP whales make up the overwhelming majority of net outflows from major exchanges—not selling, but withdrawing their tokens to hold. XRP on exchanges is dwindling, while the government’s BTC and BNB are lining up to move in. The flows are going in completely opposite directions.
Since going all in in 2020, Saylor has added hundreds or even thousands of BTC with every treasury update. If another major purchase comes on October 29, institutional buying will be going head-to-head with government selling. Whether BNB can absorb that potential sell-off is what I’m most interested in watching at the end of October.
Old Ma’s puppy has been steadily popular lately. It doesn’t chase pumps or panic-sell, and has instead become a rare comforting corner in the square 🐶
