Binance futures liquidations over the past hour totaled $5.76 million: $399,000 in longs (6.9%) and $5.36 million in shorts.
After a liquidation event, I look at three things:
① Which side was liquidated more: mainly shorts, meaning the upward move triggered short covering;
② The largest was $ETH ($1.87 million); it usually has the biggest volatility afterward;
③ Whether open interest fell along with it: a decline means leverage was genuinely flushed out; no decline means more leveraged positions are entering.
The longer high funding rates persist, the higher the cost of holding positions—and the more people will be unable to hold on.
