Today is October 10, 2026 (Saturday).
Three major things happened in the AI Agent sector over the past month (September 10–October 10):
Event 1: Osmosis's allBTC was attacked (September 9)
A vulnerability in the Nomic cross-chain bridge.
(Source: HTX/CryptoNews)
Event 2: Coinbase partnered with Moov (September 14)
Stablecoin payment infrastructure.
(Source: Investing News)
Event 3: Blockworks launched Agentic Detection (September 17)
Compliance monitoring for AI Agents.
(Source: ChainCatcher)
What do these three things tell us?
They show that the AI Agent sector is continuing to build at the "infrastructure layer," even though "usage" is still low.
Specifically:
Infrastructure 1: Payment layer
Coinbase's x402 protocol + partnership with Moov = payment infrastructure for AI Agents
Infrastructure 2: Monitoring layer
Blockworks Agentic Detection = compliance monitoring for AI Agents
Infrastructure 3: Cross-chain layer
Although the Osmosis attack exposed cross-chain risks, cross-chain functionality remains a "must-have" for AI Agents
Three data points (not new, but worth tracking):
Data point 1: A TRM report shows that AI Agents account for only 0.6%–6.5% of activity on the x402 protocol
The infrastructure is in place, but usage hasn't caught up yet.
Data point 2: The AI Agent sector's TVL in DefiLlama's AI category continues to change
(Check weekly)
Data point 3: AI Agent projects make up 10%–15% of the Kaito Mindshare leaderboard
(Changes weekly)
My three observations as an ordinary observer:
Observation 1: The infrastructure layer is "more or less" built
The focus going forward will be on "usage."
Observation 2: Don't chase "hype"—look for "real-world use"
AI Agent projects with real-world use cases are the ones with long-term value.
Observation 3: Data needs to be tracked continuously
Check DefiLlama, Kaito, and others once a week to see how things change.
What do you think about "infrastructure vs. usage" in the AI Agent sector?
