U.S. crypto ETFs shed $1.29 billion in the week of October 5–9

1. What happened
According to data from Farside Investors, five categories of U.S. crypto ETFs saw combined net outflows of $1.29 billion from October 5 to 9. BTC funds lost $679 million and ETH funds $542 million, accounting for most of the outflows. It wasn’t until Friday that they managed a modest net inflow.

2. Not even the smaller coins were spared
$SOL ETFs saw $25 million in outflows for the week, mostly from Bitwise’s BSOL. Zcash products lost $30.8 million, while $HYPE products saw $9.4 million in outflows. All five groups of products recorded net outflows, compared with net inflows of $29.2 million the previous week.

3. My takeaway
This isn’t portfolio rebalancing—it’s reducing exposure. With oil surging above $105 and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East escalating, institutions are pulling back to their safety net first. Don’t expect ETF flows to provide smaller coins with fresh capital in the short term; any rebound will depend on retail investors stepping in. Take a look at the $SOL chart—the price level matters more than the narrative.
