⚠️ XRPL fixed a decade-old bug that could have allowed fake XRP to be created.
A vulnerability dating back to 2015 could reportedly have allowed attackers to generate billions of dollars’ worth of $XRP without paying the full cost.
The vulnerability involved offer aggregation by the payment engine: an overflow in the calculations could make the amount owed appear far lower than it should have been.
XRPL fixed the issue in xrpld v3.4.1 on September 25, apparently bypassing the usual amendment vote for the first time in ten years.
The good news? There is no evidence that the exploit was used on the mainnet, and more than 80% of validators quickly upgraded.
Still, the incident shows how a single flaw in supply verification can threaten a token’s fixed supply.
For $XRP , security is what matters — and so is fixing critical bugs before they can be exploited.
