Gold is falling, but someone is quietly buying. Gold closed September at $4,157. At the end of August, it was still $4,449. That’s a drop of more than 6% in just one month. It’s also 21% below this year’s high. Retail investors are selling, while central banks are scooping it up.🪙

The buyer is China’s central bank. It added 740,000 ounces in September, or about 23 tonnes. That makes 23 consecutive months of gold buying—and its largest purchase since October 2023. Its total holdings now amount to about 2,410 tonnes. For seven months in a row, it has been buying more and more.🌏

The pace is clear. In March, it bought just 160,000 ounces. In August, that rose to 650,000 ounces. In September, it jumped to 740,000 ounces. It hasn’t missed a month since March. Its gold holdings have also climbed to 77.47 million ounces.📈

I don’t think this is about buying the dip. It’s about changing the anchor. The book value of the gold it holds is shrinking—from $350 billion to $323.5 billion. Gold prices have fallen, leaving it with paper losses, but it keeps buying anyway. Its foreign exchange reserves total $3.4 trillion, down $38.1 billion over the same period. It’s not buying for yield; it’s buying a sense of security.💰

Personally, I think this is connected to crypto, too. Buying gold for 23 months straight isn’t about the price. It’s about owning something you can keep in your own hands. That logic is fundamentally the same as $BTC . It has already bought 103 tonnes this year. Among central banks around the world, even Poland has reached 98 tonnes.🥇

The comparison makes it even clearer. Gold was still at $5,278 in February. Now it’s down to $4,122, a drop of more than 20%. Yet official buyers are still adding to their holdings without missing a day. Meanwhile, $BTC is hovering around $83,000. The market will decide for itself what counts as a safe haven.🤔

📌 Central banks are buying what they can “keep in their own hands,” not betting on whether “this rally will continue.”

Would you buy gold alongside them, or keep holding your coins?
