Altcoins are bleeding out again—AVAX down 9.4% in a day: who’s catching the falling knife?
Bitcoin has already fallen below 81,000, and altcoins are looking even worse (CryptoRank data from Oct. 9): AVAX -9.40%, ADA -8.57%, SOL down over 4%, and $ETH briefly dipped below 2,500.
Veteran traders know the saying: when the market sets the stage, small caps steal the show. Now it’s the opposite—the broader market is tearing down the stage, and small caps are jumping off the roof first. When leverage triggers a cascade of liquidations, high-beta coins always fall two or three times as much as Bitcoin.
The data doesn’t lie: ETH futures trading volume was 15.4 times spot volume (CoinGlass data from Oct. 9), which shows that short-term gamblers are all piling into derivatives. Chasing the dip and buying small caps in a market like this is like trying to catch a flying knife beneath a waterfall.
My take: on a crash day, looking for opportunities among the biggest losers is more reliable than chasing the biggest gainers. After $ADA $AVAX fell more than 8%, some people have started watching it in stages—but don’t go all in. Wait for BTC to get back above 81,000 before considering a right-side entry.
If you’re holding small caps, comment 1; if you’ve sold, comment 2. Let’s see who’s having the worst time in the comments 👇
Just my personal opinion; this is not investment advice.
