Are coins really stored in your wallet?
Your assets are recorded on the blockchain; your wallet manages the keys needed to sign transactions. A private key proves that you’re authorized to initiate a transaction. A recovery phrase is usually a backup entry point for restoring a set of keys, not an ordinary login password.
So, uninstalling a wallet doesn’t make your assets disappear. But if your recovery phrase is exposed, someone could restore your wallet on another device and transfer your assets. Changing your app password usually won’t invalidate keys that have already been exposed.
Keep backups offline—don’t take screenshots and upload them to cloud storage. If any customer service representative or airdrop page asks for your recovery phrase, stop immediately. If it has already been exposed, create a brand-new wallet on a trusted device and transfer your assets as soon as possible.
Remember: you’re backing up control, not files containing coins. #BlockchainKnowledge
